One of my favorite movies when I was a kid was the Mighty Duck franchise. Me growing up on Long Island, I always loved hockey. I’m a big time New York Islander fan. The movies are about a hot shot lawyer who because of a nigt of drinking and driving as a part of community service has to coach a group of youth hockey players. Along the story Gordon played by Emilo Estevez, learns to recapture his childhood dreams and give that dream he had to the kids. The movies always made me laugh and think well I could be a hockey player. I was pretty damn good except for the fact that I can’t skate. I’m a regular Happy Gilmore. Hockey movies have always been very entertaining. Slapshot starring Paul Newman was an awesome hockey movie. The Hanson brothers are a great bunch of goons. Now I love hockey and hockey and movies go hand in hand. NHL stars have made cameos in movies. A recent successful movie was Miracle. Miracle is the story of the 1980 Mens USA Hockey Team. In 1980 in Lake Placid NY Coach Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) coaches a bunch of kids from Boston, Michig

One of my favorite movies as a kid growing up in the 90’s was rookie of the year starring Thomas Ian Nicholas. The movie centers around a kid Henry Roengartner who breaks his arm and after the arm heals is able to throw a baseball 90 mph. It is a movie that has funny little messages. The message Henry finds out that even though it is a dream to play professional baseball, a true childhood dream is to hang out with your friends and spend time with the ones you care about the most. This was sadly one of John Candy’s last movies. He played the announcer for the cubs. Dan Hedya is also in the movie as well as the hilarious Daniel Stern. He plays the pitching coach with odd techniques that are borderline stupid. The movie was made in 1993 and was very successful. Also this movie shows us how older veteran pitchers in the majors are sometimes left out. Gary Busey was great in the movie as Chet Steadman a crowd favorite who is having a less than subpar season. The team after gaining Henry goes on a streak and wind up making the playoffs will they win the world series, will henry be a major leauger for the next 30 years check out the movie and find out.
Also cameo’s by Bobby Bonilla, Barry Bonds, and Pedro Guerreo
I say it’s only 28 days til Pitchers and Cathers report to training camp

Blue Chips is a funny movie starring Nick Nolte as coach Pete Bell. Coach Bell of the Western University Dolphins is a legendary coach who has been on the decline and due to shifty recruiting tactics is hard for him to recruit the top players the right way. After a lot of pressure from the boosters to win Coach Bell gives in and starts to lure in top prospects with bribes. The three big name players he got Ricky Roe a son of a farmer with the best three point shooting around, Butch Mcrae (Anfernee “Penny” Hardawae) who is an all around guard with good shooting and good defense, and Neon Bodeaux (Shaquille O’neal) who is the big man power center with an awesome dunking ability. Bell gets them houses, cars, tractors, and money to get them to come. The legendary Bob Cousy is in the movie as well as Bobby Knight, Rick Patino, Larry Bird, Dick Vitale, and other college coaches. Ed O’Neil who plays a reporter that is on to Coach Bell’s scam has an awesome performance in this movie. The movies basketball scenes are among the best. This movie shows the down and dirty dealings of college basketball recruiting. Made in 1994 the movie stands the test of time. Many people have not seen this movie but it is one of the best sports movies made. Nick Nolte’s performance is stellar and the lengths he go’s through to keep the boys on the team shows the dedication and desperation of a hall of fame coach. Check out the clip
With the action and intensity that Nolte brings to this role, it shows you how hard the college coaches work in order to win Til Next time
