TIN CUP

Tin Cup Pictures, Images and Photos

The movie Tin Cup starring Kevin Costner is a movie about a driving range golf pro Roy Mcavoy. He was one of the best college golfers then a life of alcohol and gambling leads him into a miserable existance. Roy and his group which he calls the player gallery bet on everything. When a Dr (Renne Russo) comes to the range for a golf lesson Roy tries to impress her with allof his golf knowledge. He then finds out that she is dating his rival from college David Simms (Don Johnson) Roy goes out and tries to prove that he can play on the pro tour. One of my favorite lines in all of cinema is in this movie “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner”  The premise of the movie is to show how even people who are down on thier luck and strong in thier self morals can achive greatness. Roy is constantly beliving he can make a shot. He stands a chance to win the US open and on a long par 5 decides to go for the green in two. If you are not a golfer and don’t know what that means. It is when the yardarge of the hole is so long that to par is five. Usually par fives you need three strokes to get on the green. Well Roy knows he can make it in two. Instead of making the smart play and trying to win the tournament, he goes for the green and the first 9 shots he misses and with the last ballin his bag he knocks in not only on the green but in the hole. The movie also stars Cheech Marin one half of the famous stoner duo Cheech and Chong. Not only is a great golf movie but it also has a good message that you can take out of it. Check this movie out ASAP

Looking Back

One of my favorite movies when I was a kid was the Mighty Duck franchise. Me growing up on Long Island, I always loved hockey. I’m a big time New York Islander fan. The movies are about a hot shot lawyer who because of a nigt of drinking and driving as a part of community service has to coach a group of youth hockey players. Along the story Gordon played by Emilo Estevez, learns to recapture his childhood dreams and give that dream he had to the kids. The movies always made me laugh and think well I could be a hockey player. I was pretty damn good except for the fact that I can’t skate. I’m a regular Happy Gilmore. Hockey movies have always been very entertaining. Slapshot starring Paul Newman was an awesome hockey movie. The Hanson brothers are a great bunch of goons. Now I love hockey and hockey and movies go hand in hand. NHL stars have made cameos in movies. A recent successful movie was Miracle. Miracle is the story of the 1980 Mens USA Hockey Team. In 1980 in Lake Placid NY Coach Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) coaches a bunch of kids from Boston, Michig

Actor Spotlight-JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME

Jean Claude Van Damme is one of the biggest action stars in the world. He has made many successfull movies and is known as THE MUSSELLS FROM BRUSSELS. He was born in Belguim and has been trained and once fought in martial arts. His Kickboxing record was 18-1. He has been married and divorced 4 times and has three children. Some of his movies include Universal Solidier, Kickboxer, Bloodsport, Street Fighter, Sudden Death, Double Team, Timecop, The Replicant, The Order, and In Hell. He does not speak very well english. He recently had an apperance on the Big O and Dukes Radio show which you can hear on 1067 FM Washington DC and WJFK.COM. When Chad Dukes asked him questions because he was a big fan he didn’t answer and the call was horrible reception so they hung up on him. Jean Claude Van Damme is a great action star and will be remembered in Cinema for his on screen accomplishments. He even played a backup goalie for the Pittsburgh Penguins in Sudden Death

My favorite role of his was when he played Col. Willam Guile in Street Fighter. That role was a good fit even though Guile was supposed to be 100% american and he talks with a belgian accent. He has a great fight scene with the late Raul Julia who played General Bison. The movie is good. The one person who is an expert on all things Van Damme is my high school friend Chris. He celebrated his entire calendar.

SO TO RECAP

Heavyweights

heavyweights Pictures, Images and Photos

One of my favorite kids movies of all time is Heavyweights. It is a movie about a bunch of overweight kids who go to a summer camp that is focused on being fit and active. After ownership changes new owner Tony Perkis (Ben Stiller) is a health nut. His measures are extreme and borderline unhealthy. The main character in the movie is Jerry Garner played by Aaron Schwartz. Also in the movie are kids Keenan Thompson (Keenan and Kel) and Shaun Weiss (Mighty Ducks). Also Pat Finley (Tom Mcgowan) is one of the senior counselors who is also a heavy set person and has been his whole life. I really love this movie. It was an awesome family comedy that is an instant classic. Made by the Disney company an with Ben Stiller’s outlandish style makes the kids mad and they try to concockt a plan to take over the camp. This is one of Judd Apatow’s first movie as a producer since then he has gone on to produce movies such as The 40 Year Old Virgin, Anchorman The Legend Of Ron Burgundy, Step Brothers, talladega Nights, The Cable Guy, and Celtic Pride. The movie has a lot of zings and has cameo appearances by Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. Here is a clip

Check this movie out today. You will love it

Rookie Of The Year

Rookie of the Year Pictures, Images and Photos

One of my favorite movies as a kid growing up in the 90’s was rookie of the year starring Thomas Ian Nicholas. The movie centers around a kid Henry Roengartner who breaks his arm and after the arm heals is able to throw a baseball 90 mph. It is a movie that has funny little messages. The message Henry finds out that even though it is a dream to play professional baseball, a true childhood dream is to hang out with your friends and spend time with the ones you care about the most. This was sadly one of John Candy’s last movies. He played the announcer for the cubs. Dan Hedya is also in the movie as well as the hilarious Daniel Stern. He plays the pitching coach with odd techniques that are borderline stupid. The movie was made in 1993 and was very successful. Also this movie shows us how older veteran pitchers in the majors are sometimes left out. Gary Busey was great in the movie as Chet Steadman a crowd favorite who is having a less than subpar season. The team after gaining Henry goes on a streak and wind up making the playoffs will they win the world series, will henry be a major leauger for the next 30 years check out the movie and find out.

Also cameo’s by Bobby Bonilla, Barry Bonds, and Pedro Guerreo

I say it’s only 28 days til Pitchers and Cathers report to training camp

My Poker Stuff

Hey all it’s Wednesday January 21st and as I write this today we start a new chapter in the history of the United States of America with are new president Barack O’Bama. It is well known that he is the view that online gaming should be regulated by the government and possibly be illegal in the states. Which I don’t personally feel that way but if that happens what can you do. The PPA (Poker Players Alliance) head by former Sen Al D’amato has been gaining support to legalize online gaming. If you haven’t relized I’m a big poker fan. There isa show on sunday nights usually at 10 pm on 1067 WJFK washington dc called Mediocre Poker Radio hosted by Brett Oliverio and Eric Bickle from the Junkies. There morning show includes a lot of poker content and every couple of months they have a big tournament for all of their listners at the Borgota in Atlantic City NJ.  I strongly Suggest you check out the Junkies Podcasts. You will find these guys to be the straw that stirs the drink. Also MediocrePoker.Com and Support Brett and Eric they have a great show where they talk to pro’s and chronicle thier play and hope to improve your play with tips that have worked and have not worked for them.  As always if your online at any of the sites look me up my player id is DASWONDERKIDD.

SUPER BOWL

Wow another great weekend of playoff football in the books. Another good week for my picks so far this post season I’ve only missed one game and that was the Titans/Ravens game. So that brings my record to 9-1 this post season Before I reveal my super bowl pick The two teams that are in the Super Bowl this year I ususally route for both of them in Arizona and Pittsburgh. I am first a Steelers fan and like the Giants, Cardinals, and the Texans. Those teams have qualities in thier orginization that I like and respect. First the Arizona Cardinals. The NFC west champions a went 9-7 and made the playoffs as the 4 seed. They beat the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and the Philidelphia Eagles on route to the Super Bowl. My favorite player on the team is Larry Fitzgerald. He is a differance maker and will help a mediocre team become a great team. Now to all opf you that say the cardinals are not great. Greatness is measured when the games count the most. So Kurt Warner will not buckle under the pressure of the top rated defense in the NFL

The Steelers were the AFC north champions and held a 12-4 record and two postseason wins against the streaking San Diego Chargers and the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers are my favorite team so I am a little bias but they have arguably the best defense ever. They were able to hold all opponents under 300 total offensive yards and were number one in all defensive categories except for run defense were they were number two behind the Ravens. Ben Roethlisberger was a big issue this year with struggling and injuries he silenced critics and helped the steelers win big football games with poise and confidence. that’s something you can’t teach. And don’t forget Troy Polamalu he is a character with his long hair  but don’t let that fool you he is a tough son of a bitch.

So my prediction the Steelers defense will contain the Arizona offense just enough to pull out the win. I’m guessing a 23-17 Steelers win And Super Bowl MVP Ben Roethlisberger, Heads for the coin flip, and an NFC win in the pro bowl

thats all for today

My quick nugget for today

I love the movie office space and It is one of those movies that gets funnier every time I watch it. Office space is directed by Mike Judge. The same guy that created Beavis and Butthead, Daria, and King Of the Hill. The movie gets you to think about life being a grind. Life should never be like that. So what I say is when you watch a movie that you like and it is relateable pay it forward share it with a friend a family member or even a complete stranger. This week will be a big week for the country. With the NFL playoffs, the inauguration this will be an action packed week so make sure if something is going wrong with your day take a minute to look at your favorite movie and it will make you smile and laugh

Til tommorow have a good day

GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
